This is a question I am often asked. Should I smile showing teeth for my professional corporate headshot session ? Should I even smile at all?
Yes!
And No.
Some people do not like their smile.
Some people do not like their teeth.
Some people tell me that their smiles always look fake.
Some people tell me they don’t know how to smile naturally in front of a camera.
Some people find it very easy and natural to smile for the camera.
During your corporate headshot session I will help guide you through smiling and not smiling so that I can capture a range of suitable expressions for you.
Here are two examples of smiling with and without teeth and both are very suitable for the needs of each client.
Unless you absolutely require a serious, non smiling portrait, and some people do, then I always recommend that we mix it up and capture the best of both looks.
I know that you are not a professional model and I know that being in front of the camera can be daunting for some people. I have never had anyone say to me that being photographed is their most favourite thing to do.
During my 22 years of being a professional portrait photographer, I have learned how to guide people, help people relax in front of the camera and gain the best results from their studio session.
During your studio session you may like to change looks with different clothing or accessories. If you are not sure on what will look best, bring a few outfits and I can assist you in deciding on the right look for you.
